It's interesting how the discussion of short-termism, machiavellianism, and tacitcal effectiveness while discussing Russia/Putin, evokes what is colloquially said of psychopathy:
It's often said, colloquially: something about the modern transactional society makes well functioning psychopaths readily rise to the top........and then there's the more formal statement: "Psychopathy is a group of personality traits that are associated with violations of social norms......In contrast, secondary psychopathy is associated with impulsivity and lack of long-term goals, and is related to hostile behavior."
